The production of Fuel Ethanol by Solid Substrate Fermentation from Canna edulis Ker

Canna edulis Ker is a kinds of potential materials for the production of fuel ethanol. Pasting profiles of edible canna starch slurries were determined, the results indicated that 85℃~90℃ low-temperature-cooked is enough for the liquefaction technology of edible canna. The effects of different fermentation conditions such as material-water radio, nitrogen source, inoculum concentration ere.on Solid Substrate Fermentation were studied with Canna edulis Ker as material. The yield of ethanol of more than 82.5% of the theretical was achieved with a ethanol concentration 12.8 (vol.%). An economic analysis indicated that development Canna edulis Ker fuel ethanol can increase peasants income, providing new jobs, and promoting economic development of west China.
