Kinetic Study of Biomass Hydrolysis with Hot Liquid Water
Under the reaction condition of 4.0 MPa, 1: 20 of solid to liquid ratio(g/ml), and 500 r/min of stirring speed, the kinetics of hemicellulose hydrolysis was studied by choosing the xylan, rice straw and palm shell as feedstock on the self-designed facility. The results indicate that the hydrolysis reaction of the three materials followed a first-order sequential kinetic model, and the active energy of hemicellulose hydrolysis are 65.58 kJ/mol for xylan, 68.76 kJ/mol for rice straw and 95.19 kJ/mol for palm shell, meanwhile the active energy of sugar degradation were 147.21 kJ/mol for xylan, 47.08 kJ/mol for rice straw and 79.74 kJ/mol for palm shell, respectively. The reason causing these differences could be the diversity of the composition and construction of the three materials. In order to reduce the decomposition of sugar, the hydrolysis time of biomass such as rice straw and palm shell must be controlled strictly.
