AFLP and SRAP fingerprinting of a collection of sweet sorghum germplasm
In this study, 11 AFLP ,Pst l-Mse I primer pairs and 24 SRAP were selected to fingerprint 48 sweet sorghum genotypes. The results showed that M-CAG×P-CGT and CG-AAA×AT-AAT were AFLP primer pair and SRAP primer pair which possessed the best discriminatory power, respectively. The genetic distances among the studied genotypes were calculated based a total of 368 polymorphic fragments generated by all primer pairs and a few of genotype pairs were found to be closely genetically related. Cluster analysis grouped these genotypes into two major clusters, in each of which, three sub-clusters were found. Moreover, the grouping results were, in general, related with their sugar yield of the main stalk per plant (SY) or/and its component values. Therefore, the study provided a good and practical estimate of genetic relationships among the studied genotypes. The information produced by this study was very helpful in future sweet sorghum breeding programs to improve sugar yield and maintain broad genetic diversity.
