A review of Research Progess on Upgrading of Bio-oil
Due to the liquid fuel is facilitate to store, transport and containing high degree energy density, the biomass pyrolysis oil (bio-oil) made from biomass was widely researched to be an alternative fuel for fossil energy resource. Recent researches have focused on upgrading process for bio-oil. The advantages and shortcomings of several important upgrading methods such as hydrogenation, catalytic pyrolysis, adding solvent, emulsification and esterification methods were reviewed. According to original properties of bio-oil, conversion active group to stable group (e.g changing carboxylic acids to ester and aldehyde to acetal group) was of better application prospect. It was pointed out that with the development of upgrading process for biomass pyrolysis oil, group conversion of bio-oil will be taken more and more attention.
