ENVIRONMENTAL ZONATION FOR DURABILITY ASSESSMENT AND DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES IN CHINA
Surrounding environmental actions are important factors which cause corrosion damages inreinforced concrete structures. With the appropriate environmental zonation documents, thedurability and service life of an existing reinforced concrete structure in any region of Chinacan be assessed easily, and the durability design of a new reinforced concrete structure can becarried out. Based on the environmental condition characteristics of engineering structures inChina, a new method of environmental zonation for concrete structures was proposed. Firstly,environmental actions of concrete structures were classified into different categories.Furthermore, zone division and grade determination for different kind of environmentalactions were carried out on the map of our country based on the durability damage tbredictionmodels for concrete structures. Finally, the zonation results were further adjusted to take intoaccount other environmental factors which were not considered in the original environmentalzonation. Zonation of carbonation environment was taken as an example to illustrate themethodology of the environmental zonation for reinforced concrete structures in China.
