Study of the Knowledge Acquisition, Transfer and Creation in Multinational Corporations
Most Multinational Corporations (MNC) have developed the integrated and highly efficient internal knowledge platforms to facilitate the acquisition, transfer and creation of knowledge so as to manage knowl edge effectively and enhance their competence. The platform consists of physical layer, organizational layer and inter-personal layer. Based on their internal knowledge platforms, MNCs develop extensive knowledge collaboration networks among parent companies, subsidiaries and various shareholders, which integrate the storage, flow and creation of knowledge. The knowledge network can be divided by ownership into internal and external networks. The knowledge creation system of a MNC is characterized by three effects, which are the self-organization effect based on its advanced and abundant knowledge, the synergy effect originated from its organic network structure and the heterogeneous convergence effect ignited by its diversified knowledge sources. The network structure-based knowledge acquisition, transfer and creation system of MNCs can promote the interaction between existing knowledge and incremental knowledge, between internal knowledge and external knowledge and between the knowledge of the parent company and the knowledge of subsidiaries through the self-organization effect, synergy effect and heterogeneous convergence effect.
