Analysis and Selection of Supplier Integration Patterns after Corporate Horizontal Mergers
The success of corporate horizontal merger lies on whether to obtain the Synergy of Supply chain to a large degree. The integration of suppliers is an important factor that determines the effectiveness of the whole supply chain integration. The degree of economy and the degree of systematization of supplier management are the two most important dimensions to plot out supplier integration patterns. According to these two dimensions, we can get four integration patterns: preservation, simplification, flat-roof and systematization. When enterprises adopt preservation, they can preserve the former supplier management system of the two sides. Simplification requires that the new entities reduce the number of suppliers but not implement systematic management. Flatroof requires establishing a flat-roof for supplier management but not reducing the number of suppliers. Systematization requires not only reducing the number of suppliers but also implementing systematic management. Among them, systematization is the superlative phase of the supplier integration pattern after corporate horizontal merger and it is the goal that enterprises should endeavor to achieve in the long run. Enterprises can select an appropriate pattern for themselves through analyzing the main factors such as the ability of supplier management, the discrepancy of business orientation, the entire strategic integration pattern, the tendency to competitive strategy and culture conflict.
