A Comparative Study of the Competencies of Chinese Male and Female Business Managers
This paper is a comparative study on the differences of competencies of Chinese male and female business managers and the relationship between competencies and performance of those managers. Based on our sample of 887 Chinese male and female business managers by questionnaire survey studies, it found: ① Gender effect on managers competencies is significant. Male managers have higher level of competencies than female managers on decision-making ability, achievement motivation, innovation ability, leadership ability and changea bility.② Male and female managers with higher performance have significant differences in some competencies. Male managers with higher performance have higher decision-making ability, innovation ability and change ability than their female counterparts.③ Male and female managers have different predictive models to performance by competencies. Change ability, decision-making ability and achievement motivation have significant predictions to male managers performance, whereas change ability, innovation ability and leadership ability have significant predictions to female managers performance. Change ability contributes the maximal prediction to the perform ance of both male and female managers.
