STUDY ON DURABILITY AND MAINTENANCE STRATEGY OF A SUPERSTRUCTURE OF JETTY WITH SURFACE COATINGS APPLIED AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE
In a superstructure of jetty that was constructed in Tokyo Bay in Japan 26 years ago,the surface coatings with organic coating materials were treated at three years after constructionas a preventive measure against the chloride induced deterioration. The authors have carried outthe detailed investigation several times between 20 years after coating and evaluated theperformance of this repair method. So,from the tendency of supposed long-term degradation ofsome performances of surface coatings,the prediction curves for surface coatings deteriorationare obtained,and a method to reflect this prediction curves for the maintenance program of asuperstructure of jetty was shown. The main results obtained are as follows: 1) by applying thesurface coatings with organic coating materials to a superstructure of jetty in the early stageafter construction,reinforced concrete members and applied surface coatings can maintain thehigh durability together for a long term,2) the application of the surface coatings in the earlystage is very effective for preventive maintenance.
