OPTIMIZATION OF DURABILITY DESIGN FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE BENDING MEMBERS IN MARINE ENVIRONMENT
The effective and practical measures to improve the durability of concrete structurein marine environment include increasing concrete cover depth and using high performanceconcrete. In order to get a balance between cost and the requirements of safety, serviceabilityand durability,it is necessary to carry on optimization design for concrete structures. Anoptimal mathematic model of bending member in marine environment is presented hereinwhich takes concrete mixture: water, cement, silica fume, fly ash, slag, sand, coarse aggregate,FDN and cover thickness, area of reinforcements as design variables, member cost as objectfunction, and flexural strength, maximum crack width, reinforcement initial corrosion asconstraints. An example is optimized and the influence of protective thickness, mixcomposition on durability design is discussed. It is found that concrete cover depth is a keyfactor for cost optimization of concrete bending member. And the mixture optimal design ofHPC is with low water-binder ratio, low amount of cement,a large percentage of mineraladmixtures.
