THE LIFE-SPAN PREDICTION OF REINFORCED CONCRETE CORROSION CRACKING BASED ON DUAL-G FRACTURE CRITERION

The dual-G fracture criterion describes initiation, stable propagation and unstablepropagation of cracks related to concrete structures. The corresponding dual-G fractureparameters(i.e.,initial cracking toughness and unstable fracture toughness)introduced in thecriterion are established by using a simple experiment method combining with an analyticalevaluation based on the cohesive force on the fictitious crack zone. The crack propagationprocess due to corrosion expansion of reinforced concrete is consist of three stages: these are, crack initiation, stable crack propagation and unstable fracture. Based on corrosive expansionforce of reinforced concrete members in reference Ill,the formula of strain energy releaserate G for crack propagation about corroded reinforced concrete members is presented byfracture mechanics approaches. The duaI-G fracture criterion which is applied on theprediction of crack propagation life-span of corroded reinforced concrete, and the factorsaffected crack propagation life-span,such as the grade of concrete strength, the depth ofconcrete cover and the rebar diameter, have been investigated in detail in this paper. Theresults will shell some lights on the analysis and design of durability of reinforced concretestructures.
