INFLUENCE OF CRACKING WIDTH TO CONCRETE DURABILITY

It has been recognized that cracks of reinforced concrete (RC) structures occurs formany reasons. The cracking width is an important parameter related to the serviceability anddurability of concrete structures. In this paper,three calculating methods and cracking widthlimits proposed in the technique standards are compared. The influences of cracking width onwater penetration and chloride diffusion in concrete are presented. The electrochemicalcorrosion of reinforcement in the crack zone is discussed,results indicate that the crackingwidth has little effect on steel bars corrosion as its self-curing.
