MODELS OF CORROSION DISTRIBU TION ON STEEL BAR IN CONCRETE UNDER CLIMATE ENVIRONMENT AND CHLORIDE ATTACK
Model of the corrosion distribution of steel bar in concrete is an important problemfor durability of reinforced concrete structures. At present,an assumption of uniformcorrosion distribution along the perimeter of the steel bar has been adopted for analyzing theeffect of corrosion expansion, but according to electrochemical corrosion process of steel barin concrete, the distribution is not uniform under climate environment and chloride attack. This paper focus on modeling the corrosion distribution of the steel bar corroded underartificial climate environment. A digital optical microscope was used for observing thedistribution and measuring the thickness of the mixed layer composed of concrete and rust onthe steel-concrete interface, and than the model of corrosion distribution was established. Themicro-observations show that the corrosion distributes on the side facing the concrete coveronly before corrosion cracking and its distribution can be defined as a half ellipse pattern. After corrosion cracking, the micro-observations show that the corrosion propagates to theside of the steel bar opposite of the concrete cover, its distribution can be defined as a halfellipse pattern at the side facing the concrete cover and uniform distribution at the side backof the concrete cover. The comparison analyses are carried out among the bars corroded underartificial, natural climate environment and using Galvanostatic method, and between chlorideattack from outside of concrete and chloride containing in concrete.
