MODELING BOND STRENGTH OF CORRODED REINFORCEMENT WITH CONFINEMENT STIRRUPS
Bond strength of corroded bars in reinforced concrete specimens with confinementstirrups is theoretically modeled. Corrosion pressure due to expansive action of corrosionproducts before and after corrosion cracking is estimated by considering the influence ofconfining action of the stirrups. Effective depth of concrete cover for specimens with thestirrups is introduced, and bond strength of corroded bars is predicted and compared with thecorresponding test results. Good agreement between calculated results and test results isobtained. Beyond cover cracking, for specimens with densely-spaced stirrups, little reductionof bond strength is showed due to the sufficient confining action of stirrups; while for widely-spaced stirrups, reduction of bond strength occurs.
