MODELING THE FLEXURAL CAPACITY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM WITH PARTIALLY UNBONDED LENGTH

Due to the loss of bond resulting from the high corrosion level of reinforcing bar,the assumption of plane sections remain plane may become invalid in predicting the flexuralcapacity of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beam. An extreme case is considered, wherebond strength is complete lost and/or the tensile steel reinforcements are exposed. Acompatibility condition of deformations of the beam is proposed. The flexural capacity of theRC beam with partially unbonded length is predicted by combining the proposedcompatibility condition of deformations with equilibrium condition of forces. Comparison ofthe models predictions with the experimental results published in the literature shows thepracticability of the proposed model.
