EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION AND DESIGN OF SEVERELY CORRODED REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS
This paper focused on the residual strengths of reinforced concrete beams withheavy deterioration. This work is based on experimental investigation of reinforced concretebeams naturally corroded over 30 years. Visual inspection was firstly conducted and theconcrete cracking,spalling of concrete cover,corrosion of rebar were recorded. Material testson concrete and corroded rebar were also conducted,Loading tests were performed on threecorroded beams. The residual bending strengths obtained from the test results were comparedwith design strengths of uncorroded beam. It is shown that the corroded beams lost most oftheir strengths. In addition,design method for corroded reinforced concrete beams in thisstudy was also proposed.
