NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF SEVERELY CORRODED REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

This paper present the study of severely corroded reinforced concrete beams.Numerical investigation was carded out using finite element program ABAQUS. Finiteelement model was developed based on the tested severely corroded reinforced concretebeams. The element type and mesh,boundary condition and load application,and materialmodel were considered in the nonlinear finite element model. Specimens having differentlength of concrete cover spalling and loss of cross section area were analyzed. It is shown thatthe length of concrete cover spalling has negilible effect on the strengths of corroded RCbeams. It is also shown that the residual strengths of corroded RC beams were mainly affectedby the reduction of rebar cross-section.
