A STUDY OF FROST DAMAGE IN RIVER SLUICES

Concrete structures in cold,snowy areas are susceptible to frost deterioration. Astudy of river sluices in regions with a high risk of frost damage was thus conducted to clarifythe frost deterioration conditions of concrete river structures. Considering the differences inwater condition,which is a factor that affects frost deterioration,the platform,gatepost,retaining wall and other parts were examined. As a result,deterioration was often observed atparts subject to relatively large amounts of water supply,such as the platform and otherhorizontal parts and the submerged parts of retaining walls. There were also cases wheresluices which had recovered from frost deterioration were deteriorating again.
