A STRUCTURAL CALCULATION FOR BEAM DEFLECTIONS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE WITH BOND-SLIP

The bond-slip between steel bars and concrete in reinforced concrete beams maycause cracking development in the tensile zone of the cross-section,which may result inincreasing deflection with reduction of beams stiffness. Besides the finite element method, there is no analytical formula to calculate the deflections with bond-slip in the availableliteratures. Based on the equilibrium of force and compatibility conditions of deformationunder elastic material behaviour,an analytical model is established to describe the curvaturechanges with occurrence of bond-slip in the shear-bending region and pure bending region ofa concrete beam, and then the formulas for beam deflections are derived in this paper. Thedeflection prediction by this model is compared with two experimental results, the resultsindicate that the predicted deflections are in good agreement with the experimental values, and the contribution of the bond-slip to overall deformation can be significant.
