MIX PROPORTION DESIGN AND MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HARD-FILL DAM

With small amount of cementitious material,Hardfill dams loosens restrictions onconstruction technics and converges both advantages of faceplant and roller compactedconcrete. By orthogonal design,parameters in mix proportion design are discussed andoptimized and factors having obvious effect on strength of Hardfill material are decided.Material characteristics of Hardfill are investigated in terms of strength,elastic modulus,cohesion and friction coefficient,ultimate tension,dry shrinkage and permeability corrosion.Results show that sand percentage and water solid ratio have the most influential effect onpertormances of Hardfill material,with the optimal sand percentage between 21% and 27%and water solid ratio between 0.8 and 1.0. Hardfill is featured for low strength,littledeformability and bad permeability corrosion capability. Construction technics of Hardfilldam is quite simplified in comparison with RCC and is favorable to mechanical constructionin large scale.
