FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCE OF THE BOND-MORTAR USED IN ROCK-BOND METHOD
In Japan,75% of country area is thought to be occupied by mountainous lands.Therefore,numerous traffic roads can not be prevented from being constructed in themountainous region. It may be desirable in terms of both safety and capability to constructthem through the mountainous region by tunnel. Usually,many roads have been built on thesurface of mountainous area because of cost-effectiveness. However,that may cause someserious problems such as slope failure and falling rock by slope incline. Various methods toprevent these disaster problems have been so far also presented. One of the most effectivemethods is a rock bond method of construction. This method is such that bond-mortar will beinjected in rock gaps or rock cracking for stability of rock mechanically. In case ofconstruction using mortar at mountainous region,freezing and thawing should be consideredeven if the region is not the cold latitudes. Moreover,it is quite natural that freezing andthawing will be directly connected with durability. So,discussion about freeze-thawresistance may be sufficiently made. In this study,some freeze-thaw tests are carried in orderto discuss the durability of injection mortar used for a rock bond construction method. As aresult,it is found that dynamic elastic modulus of the mortar indicates more than 90% valueof static elastic modulus at 300 freeze-thaw cycles. In other words,it is revealed that themortar will have its durability sufficiently.
