IMPACT OF CRACKING DAMAGE ON CONCRETE TRANSPORT PROPERTIES
Recent experimental results are reported on the alteration of concrete durabilityproperties by cracking. To obtain different cracking extent and cracking from different origins, totally 99 concrete specimens are subject to mechanical axial compression,drying-wettingcycles and early shrinkage constraint tests respectively. The cracking extent of specimens isquantified by ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) measurement through elastic wave propagationtheory. For mechanical cracking, volumetric strain is equally measured. With the quantifieddamage factor, the cracked specimens are subject to rapid chloride permeability test (RCPT),rapid chloride diffusivity test (NEL method) and rapid freeze-thaw test. By the availableresults, the correlations between concrete cracking extent and altered transport properties areestablished through damage factor. In addition to material damage extent, the crack patternand connectivity are also identified as determinant influential factors. General remarks aregiven in the end for the practical application of the available correlations.
