CORROSION BAHAVIOR AND MECHANISM OF CEMENT-BASED MATERIALS UNDER SIMULATED ACID RAID CONDITION

An accelerated deterioration experiment was carried out on hardened Portlandcement paste specimens immersed in simulated acid rain with the pH value of 2.0,whichcontained Mg2+,NH4+,Ca2+,5042-,NO4-,e.g. The degraded samples were analyzed by X-raydiffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscope (SEM),energy dispersive analysis of X-ray(EDAX),and back-scattered electron (BSE). The results show that the destruction of cement-based materials caused by acid rain attack is predominantly due to the coordinate dissolvingerosion by H+ and expanding erosion by SO42-,and the corrosion products are mainlycomposed of CaSO4·2H2O crystal,SiO2·nH2O gel,and Al2O3·nH2O gel. Furthermore, thecorrosion damages occur from the surface to the interior of cement-based materials exposed toacid rain.
