EFFECT OF LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE CONTAINING EXPANSION AGENT

Expansion agent was used to reduce the shrinkage of high performance concrete(HPC) for a few years. However,due to the absence of water in HPC,expansion agent couldhardly perform its function. Although some researchers used the pre-wetted lightweightaggregate (LWA) to reduce the shrinkage of high performance concrete,there is still no reportabout using the LWA to improve the performance of expansion agent in HPC,Studyintroduced in this paper aimed to reveal the influence of LWA on the performance of HPCcontaining expansion agent. Results of experiments show that,when replacing ordinaryaggregate with LWA,the strength and elastic modulus of HPC decrease,otherwise addingsilica fume can restore the strength,but not the elastic modulus. At the same time,HPCcontaining LWA expand during the age of 180 d,and HPC without LWA shrink. Creep ofHPC with LWA is analogous to the ordinary concrete.
