FIRE FLAMMABILITY OF POLYMER-MODIFIED CEMENT MORTARS
Polymer-modified cement mortars (PCMs) using three types of polymer (ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA),vinyl carboxylate-vinyl acetate (VVA) and styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR)) were prepared with three types of water-cement ratio (W/C) (45%,50%,and 60%)and various unit polymer content (UPC) (10 kg/m3,20 kg/m3,30 kg/m3,40 kg/m3,50 kg/m3,and 100 kg/m3),and tests for fire flammability were conducted,i.e. cone calorimeter test andnon-combustibility test according to ISO 5660-1 : 2002 and ISO 1182: 2002,respectively. Theeffect of the polymer types, the UPC content, and the W/C on the fire flammability of PCMsare discussed. The results show that the heating value, the heat release rate and non-combustibility of PCMs largely depend on the polymer types and the increase of the UPCcontent rather than the W/C. In addition, the VVA mortars and the SBR mortars with UPC ofbelow 30 kg/m3,and the EVA mortars with UPC of 40 kg/m3 or less show good non-combustibility.
