Modeling of a Dual-Channel Polarization Optical Transmission System with SOA-Based All-Optical Polarization Modulations

We presented a theoretical model of a dual-channelpolarization optical transmission system using twosemiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) to achieve all-opticalpolarization modulations with two input data streams.In thismodel,the signal polarization modulation is completed byutilizing the cross polarization modulation (XPolM) effect inthe SOA.A rate equation of the tensile-strained bulk SOA wasadopted in our model.With this model,we investigatednumerically the dynamic characteristics of the system inrespects of the amplification and the phase difference of theprobe light in SOAs,signal polarization multiplexing anddemultiplexing.The simulated results are presented anddiscussions are given.
