Ultra Low Noise Dielectric Resonators Oscillators with Tuning at Ku Band

This paper describes the design of very low noise,tunable,Ku band Dielectric Resonator Oscillators (DROs)presenting phase noise performance of-100dBc/Hz at 1kHzoffset and -130dBc/Hz at 10kHz offset.SiGe based transistorsare used for the oscillator sustaining amplifiers which offercirculating power 10dBm and gain of 4dB per stage as well aslow flicker noise comer between 10kHz and 40kHz.Theresonator has unloaded Q around 15,000 at operating frequencyand is then optimized and coupled to the amplifiers forminimum phase noise where QL/QO=1/2 hence S21=-6dB.Inorder to incorporate tuning,phase shifter is also investigated.The Phase noise measurement system is presented using twoDROs beating at the same frequency.
