ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING (OFDM)
In Broadband wireless system, the signal energy isscattered and reflected from objects in the environment, components of the signal arriving at the receiver arespread out over a longer period of time than is desirable. The challenge is then to provide a high-performancereliable data link that can operate with the restrictedreceiver power levels, severe channel fading due tomultipath reflections and interfering energy from otherdevices nearby. With OFDM,it is possible to use adifferential coding/differential detection either in the timeor frequency domain depending on the condition oftransmission channels with the adoption of DQPSK as amethod of subcarrier modulation. This paper proposes anapproximate derivation method of the bit error rate (BER)in DQPSK/OFDM system over frequenc non-selectiveNakagmai-Rice and Rayleigh fading channels.Thevalidity of this equation is confirmed from the fact that theBER derived from this approximate equation coincideswith that from the computer simulation, even when thesystem parameters, for example Doppler frequency,Rician parameter and so on,are varied. This paper willalso review where OFDM is applicable and futureapplications.
