Application of Micro-Genetic Algorithm for Artificial Anisotropy ADI-FDTD Method

A new method to reduce the numerical dispersion ofthe conventional alternating-direction-implicit finite-differencetime-domain (ADI-FDTD) method is proposed.Firstly,thenumerical formulations are modified with the artificialanisotropy,and the numerical dispersion relation is derived.Secondly,the relative permittivity tensor of the artificialanisotropy can be obtained by the micro-genetic algorithm(MGA),which is a genetic algorithm with a very smallpopulation.Then,the capabilities and potentialities of this newmethod are demonstrated numerically using two non-uniformmeshexamples.And the numerical results of the proposedmethod are compared with those of the FDTD method,theconventional ADI-FDTD method,and the measured data,respectively.Furthermore,the reduction of the numericaldispersion is investigated as the objective function of the MGA.It is found that this new method is accurate and efficient bychoosing proper objective function.
