INTRODUCTIONWe examined the morphology of the hair cover of water striders1 and of certain butterflies,all of which are effectively super-hydrophobic2.Both these insects live over the water (water striders)or have to deal with water for a long time (butterfly).According to the needs of the insect,the structure varied considerably.
