A Study on Control Surface Actuation using Smart Actuator

INTRODUCTION In this study,a new type of control surface for a small missile was designed and manufactured using piezo-composite actuator.This study attempted to replace theconventional heavyweight hydraulic or electromagnetic motor actuator by lightweight and simple piezo-composite smart actuator.One side of the actuator was fixed at the aft of the missile fin.A simple prototypewas manufactured and evaluated in an experiment.The result showed that the bimorph type actuator could produce more stable angle of attack without the influence of load.
