Treatment of High Consistency Effluent from Bamboo CTMP Pocess with a Multi-bio-stages Sequence

The characteristics of effluent from Bamboo CTMP pulping process were investigated. The results showed that this type of effluents, compared with that from wood pulping process, had the following characteristics: 1)higher consistency of COD; 2)higher contents of nitrogen(ammonia). The loading of COD was 7320 mg/l,the content of nitrogen (ammonia)was higher than 500 mg/l.Combinations of anaerobic and aerobic bio-reactors were applied to investigate the efficiency of effluents removal. This treatment system could be organized into four stages,i.e.,flocculation,anaerobic,aerobic and post-flocculation stages. The results show that,in the first stage, while using PSAFCS No.2 with a dosage of 2000 mg/l,the removing ratios of COD,BOD5 and SS can be reach up to about 49.4%,46.4% and 71.1%; in the anaerobic processing stage, those of COD,BOD,SS reach up to about 85.4%,86.8% and 60.1%; in the aeration stage, those of COD,BOD,SS reach about 68.4%,84.5%,52.5%,respectively.The discharged water could meet the local effluent discharging standard, the values of COD,BOD,SS and color have been significantly brought down to 172 mg/l,27mg/l,72 mg/l and 150 times, respectively. This multi-bio-stages sequence may become a suitable method for the treatment of high consistency effluent from Bamboo CTMP process economically.
