Treatment of Papermaking Wastewater with PSAF Coagulant

A new type of effective complex coagulant polysilicate aluminum ferric salt(PSAF)was prepared from coal gangue and pyrite slag,and used as coagulant in the treatment of papermaking wastewater.The experimental results showed that PSAF had a good coagulation effect in the treatment of papermaking wastewater when the pH values ranged from 5 to 10.The removal ratio of SS,CODcr and color was 96.5%,88.6% and 92.3% respectively,under the conditions that temperature was normal,pH was 7.0 and dosage of the coagulant was 50mg/L.The temperature had little impact on the removal ratio of CODCr.In comparison with the conventional coagulants,such as Al2(SO4)3 and FeCl3,the coagulation performance of PSAF was the best.The remarkable characteristics of this method were higher sedimentation rate,lower remains of pollutants in papermaking wastewater and lower cost of treatment.The coagulation mechanism of PSAF coagulant in the treatment ofpapermaking wastewater was also discussed.
