Synthesis and Application of Novel Starch-based Cationic Copolymer for Papermaking Wastewater Treatment
Synthesis of inartificial high molecular cationic flocculant using starch, diallydimethyl ammonium chloride and acrylamide, with complex initiators in aqueous solution was carried out in this study. The paper discussed the ratio of starch to the monomers, the ratio of monomers, the concentration of initiator, the reaction time and temperature,on intrinsic viscosity and grafting yield, and found out the optimal conditions as follows: the ratio of starch and the monomers was 1: 1.5,the ratio of the monomers was 4: 6,the concentration of initiator was 0.15%,the reaction time was 4h,the reaction temperature was 50℃.The results showed that the grafting yield was 228.65%,intrinsic viscosity was 951.20mL/g and molecular weight was 1.188×107 g/mol.The graft copolymer was measured by IR to identify its structure. This modifed flocculant and polyaluminum(PAC)were used to treat papermaking wastewater, the effect was better than PAM.The COD,SS and color removal ratios reached 94.8%,97.1%,and 98%.The water quality can meet the national discharge standard(GB3544-2001)after treatment. This cationic starch modified flocculant can reduce water treatment cost and protect environment, because it has advantages of low dosage and price, high CODcr removal ratio, and without secondary pollution.
