Surface Energy and Interfacial Tension Analysis of Paper-based Aramid Fibre and Pulp
Surface energy of several meta-aramid fibres and pulps were determined according to the harmonic mean-based Wu equation.Relationship between the surface energy and the interfacial tension of aramid fibres and pulps were analyzed, combined with calculation of interfacial tension and work of adhesion of aramid fibres and pulps. The results show that surface energy of the aramid fibres and pulps are at 35-45 mJ/m2,the surface energy of fibres is slightly higher than that of pulps and the polar component of surface energy is larger than the dispersion one, when water and glycol are employed as the testing liquids.A correlation between the surface energy and work of adhesion among such several aramid fibres is found. The smaller the difference of surface energy is and the better matching of the polar component and the dispersion component is,the lower interfacial tension between aramid fibre and pulp is during aramid papermaking process.
