Study on Papermaking Technology with Silk Fiber and its Paper Properties
The technology of removing silk glue from silk fiber,the beating performance of silk fiber and the change of physical properties of silk paper made from silk pulps with different beating degrees were studied in this paper.The results showed that the main factors influencing the removal of the silk glue include reaction temperature,reaction time,chemical species and the concentration of the chemicals.The silk glue can be well separated from silk fiber with the help of Na2CO3.The best treatment conditions are as follows: Na2CO3 concentration 0.5%; reaction time 90 (60+30)minutes; reaction temperature 100℃.After beaten in a Valley beater and in a PFI refiner,the beaten silk fiber was well fibrillated,bruised and become more flexible,which promoted the hydroxyl groups and amino groups among the chain molecules to form more hydrogen bonds,and this can increase the fiber-to-fiber bonding.With the increase of beating degree,the physical strengths of the silk paper increased first and then decreased.The tensile strength of the silk paper reached the maximum when the beating degree was 50°SR,while the folding strength and tearing strengths of the silk paper reached the maximum when the beating degree was 38°SR.The silk paper was more porous,it had lower density,higher air permeability and absorbability,and the air permeability and the absorbability of the silk paper decreased with the increase of beating degree.
