Modification of Bentonite Used in Color Ink Jet Paper and Study on Its Dispersing Properties

Acid bentonite was prepared by treating sodium bentonite with the following conditions: acid concentration 25%,ratio of liquid to solid 4:1,reaction temperature 90℃,and reaction time 2 hours.Both of sodium bentonite and acid bentonite were characterized by X-ray diffraction,specific surface area and particles size measurements.The dispersion of acid bentonite in water was investigated.It was found that the acid bentonite had the lowest apparent viscosity under the conditions of rotating speed 3000 r/min,rotation time 45min,dispersing concentration 10%,pH 5 and disperser dosage 0.4%.It also showed that acid bentonite itself has good dispersion properties.The results of testing showed that the print quality is good under the optimum coating formulation.
