Study on Optimizing Packing Structures of Pigments for Improving Coating Paper Performance
The use of a new engineered pigment offered a possibility and a challenge to improve the coating quality and coated paper performance. The balance between the optical and printing properties of the coating depends on the optimum pore size and volume in a narrow particle size distribution. When the new pigment is properly combined with other pigments, the opacity and other properties of coated paper will be improved. However,a mismatch of these narrowly distributed pigments of coated paper will lead to an undesirable result. This paper investigated the new pigment packing structure and analyzed the forecasting method of the coating performance based on the new pigment structure. An approach to finding a right combination of pigments was presented.
