A Statistical Method for Synthesizing Pigment Dispersant
Coating pigment particles are prone to form aggregate because of their high surface force;therefore,in order to get a well-dispersed coating pigment, the best way is to use dispersant. In this paper,we applied statistical method to study the process for preparing water-soluble dispersant copolymers of malefic anhydride and acrylic acid, which had been formed by gradually and simultaneously adding monomers and initiator,to a reaction vessel initially containing water and activator at a temperature suitable for polymerization. The copolymers synthesized in this way have consistent compositions, low monomer residuals and superior properties as pigment dispersant.Nine synthesis factors, which influence the properties of copolymer, had been studied by the method of Plackeet-Burman design using Minitab 13software.The regression equations between molecular weight(monomer residuals)and synthesis factors were established and the main factors which influence monomer residuals and molecular weight were discovered.
