Modification of Corn Starch by a-Amylase and Its Application at the Size Press
Modification of corn starch by α-amylase and its application in the surface sizing of paper were investigated in this paper.Variables included enzyme dosages,starch concentration,pH,metal ions,temperature and reaction time.The optimal conditions for the enzyme treatment were found to be: 20% starch,0.05%-0.06% α-amylase(based on starch),pH 6.2,60mg/l Ca2+,60℃ and 10-15 minutes,in terms of starch viscosity and the improvement of paper strength.Results also showed that the enzyme-modified corn starch could improve the surface strength of paper significantly by surface application.
