Study on the Cationic Chrisotile Micro-particle Retention Aid

Cationic chrysotile micro-particle was investigated as a component for a micro-particulate retention system. The results revealed that chrysotile had high positive Zeta potential, and the Zeta potential decreased when the chrysotile was ground by means of a PFI refiner. When the positively charged chrysotile was used as a single retention aid,and the added amount was over 20%(based on filler),it provided a little retention, but when it was used as a component for a cationic micro-particle/APAM retention system,it provided excellent retention. Moreover, this retention system appeared to be insensitive to shear stress and pH.The optimal process technology was that the chrysotile was not treated or was ground by application of 6000 revolutions of the PFI refiner, and the dosages of chrysotile and APAM were 10-15% and 0.5% respectively, both based on filler content.
