Preparation and Application of PAMG as Temporary Wet Strength Agent

In this paper,a series of temporary wet strength agents were prepared and their application to bleached KP was studied.CPAM was first synthesized by aqueous polymerization from cationic monomer DMC and AM,and then it was crosslinked with glyoxai to get the copolymer PAMG of which the structure was confirmed by IR.Factors such as the ratio of DMC/AM,redox initiators,concentration of monomers,cross linker,reaction time,reaction temperature,and slurry pH were evaluated to identify the optimum conditions.When the ratio of DMC/AM,dosage of redox initiators,concentration of monomers,dosage of cross linker,reaction time,and reaction temperature were 20/100,0.3%,25%,30%,65℃,120 min respectively,the prepared PAMG can give a initial wet strength as high as 11.7%.As the soaking time went by during the test,the wet strength of paper reduced very rapid.The wet strength of paper soaked 30min was only 72.80% compared to that at soaked 5min.The results indicated that PAMG was a good temporary wet strength agent.
