The Application of New Drying Techniques in Paper Production
The drying section of a paper machine is one of the main processes which consume steam during papermaking,and it is also one of the main bottlenecks which restrict the speed of papermaking.At present,in Chinas papermaking industry,energy consumption accounts for about 15％ of the cost of papermaking.An escalation of energy prices can be expected due to limited energy supplies and increasing demands.Cylinder drying has been the primary mode of paper drying since the invention of multi-cylinders dryers more than 100 years ago.In order to obtain a higher drying efficiency,improve the paper quality,reduce the energy consumption,and protect the environment,overseas companies have developed many new dryer techniques.The development,working theories,and characteristics of these new dryer techniques,such as the Condebelt drying technique,the OptiDry drying technique,the OptiDry Vertical drying technique,the OptiDry Twin drying technique and TopDuoRtm and CombiDuoRun drying techniques,are reviewed in this paper.
