A New Vision on the Use of Mechanical Pulp

In this work we used TEMPO-mediated oxidation to treat a portion of the long fibres in softwood TMP to act as a reinforcement component.Additionally,we used 2,3-epoxy-propyl-tri-methyl ammonium chloride(EPTMAC)to cationize another portion of long fibres to function as a retention agent in newsprint making.Our main objective was to eliminate or minimize the use of foreign elements such as cationic polymer and chemical fibre in newsprint manufacture and improve the quality of whitewater by using mechanical fibre alone.The results supported our theory.
