Modification of Jack Pine TMP Long Fibers by Alkaline Peroxide-Part 2.Physical Characteristics
(0) Alkaline peroxide treatment was conducted to improve the physical and optical properties of long fibres of jack pine thermomechanical pulp.The results indicated that such a treatment is effective in improving both the physical and optical properties of long fibres.NaOH had positive effect on the physical properties but had negative impact on the optical properties while H2O2 influenced positively the optical properties but had insignificant effect on the physical properties.The study showed that the treatment temperature and time did not significantly affect the sheet characteristics.Besides,beating alkaline peroxide treated long fibres yielded excellent physical and optical characteristics which could be similar or even surpassed those of the initial whole pulp at lower freeness.
