Liquefaction of Rice Straw with Mixtures of Polyols
Many useful chemical materials can be obtained by liquefying biomass with pertinent reagent.Liquefaction effects on agriculture residues are different due to their different chemical compositions. From our former study,it is known that cellulose with a crystalline structure is difficult to be liquefied. In this paper rice straw was liquefied by various polyols, and the structure of alcoholized product was analyzed by infrared(IR)spectroscopy. The results showed that it is difficult to liquefy rice straw if glycerin(GLY),ethylene glycol(EG),diethylene glycol(DEG)or polydiethylene glycol 400(PEG400)are used individually, and the residue content was high. However, the residue content all declined to below 17% when the liquefaction was carried out using mixed liquefacient of GLY with EG,DEG or PEG400.IR spectra showed that the bulk of lignin disappeared, and the ethylene glycerin performed anti-condensation well.
