Utilization of Bagasse Pith and Magnesium Bisulfite Pulping Spent Liquor for a New Packaging Material
Packaging materials made from agriculture residues can be promising substitutes for petroleum-based plastics for a variety of industrial applications. In this paper,a process was investigated for making a packaging material from bagasse pith and magnesium bisulfite spent liquor. Results indicated that the adhesive charge, the solid contents of the spent liquor and the molding pressure had significant effects on the physical properties of the materials intended for packaging. The bulk density and hydroscopicity of the materials increased with the increase of the solid content of the spent liquor and the molding pressure. The materials had good mechanical properties and were bio-degradable.
