A PIFA with Slot Ground for RF Handset Applications

The size of traditional microstrip attenna is too large for some handset appliactions,and the bandwidth of typical planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) is not wide enough. In this paper a PIFA structure with slot ground has been developed,which provides wider bandwidth and higher gain but with minimized size. The proposed attennna structure provides seven times bandwidth and 1.1 dB higher gain compared with typical PIFA,and the size of radiate patch has been reduced at the same time. This structure is very suitable for radio frequency handset applications.
