Comprehensive Simulation and Hardware Implementation of Mobile Satellite Channel at Ka-band

Based on analyzing the basic characteristics of mobile satellite channel at Ka-band,the specific impact of rain attenuation,as well as fading and shadowing are taken into account and a comprehensive simulation model is proposed. A hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator of rain fade channel is design and implemented based on field programmable gate array (FPGA),which can provide rain attenuation prediction under different rainfall conditions whose statistics (e.g. distribution of attenuation,distribution of fade durations) are almost identical to those of measured data by using time series generator. Meanwhile,the bit-error rate (BER) performance of mobile satellite channel at Ka-band in different weather condition is evaluated with simulation results,which proves that the simulator is reasonable and valid.
