THE EFFECT OF INSULATING TUBE OPENING ANGLES ON THE CORONA WIRE FOR THE OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF WIRE-PARALLEL PLATE TYPE ELECTROHYDRoDYNAMIC GAS PUMPS
An experimental investigation has been conducted to study the effects of insulating tube openmg angles on time averaged discharge current, gas velocity, volumetric flow rate and pressure distribution for a wire-parallel plate type EHD gas pump. The experiments were conducted with three different opening angles of insulating tube covered over a corona wire under dc positive applied voltage from 0 to 7.5 kV at atmospheric pressure and room temperature in air. Experimental results show that (1)the net unidirectional gas flow was initiated by covering the part of corona wire with an insulating tube in the wire-plate type EHD gas pump with parallel plate GND electrodes and(2)the maximum volumetric flow rate, gas velocity and efficiency were achieved with 180°opening angle insulating tubes, where the discharge characteristic, the gas velocity and the volumetric flow rate of the wire-parallel plate type EHD gas pump significantly depends on the opening angle of the insulating tube.
